Hill was selected in the 11th round (pick #145) of the 1963 NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts, but he was among the last cuts on the team. He earned All American honors while at Texas Southern. Hill played on both sides of the ball as an offensive and defensive tackle. Segregation was still rampant in the south when Hill played so he took a scholarship to Texas Southern University, which is a college or university that was originally founded to educate students of African American descent. He was athletic enough to win the high school tennis championship as well as being a dominant football player. Winston Hill was an exceptional athlete growing up in Joaquin, Texas. These are the men who shone brightest on the field of play.
